West San José MTIP

The West San José Multimodal Transportation Improvement Plan (WSJ MTIP) identifies, prioritizes, and recommends transportation projects and programs. These projects and programs make walking, rolling, biking, and taking transit in West San José safer and more enjoyable. We work with the community to create transportation solutions to access and mobility for all.

The goals of this plan are to:

  • Improve health and safety
  • Advance social equity
  • Encourage multimodal mobility
  • Support a robust economy

Review the final draft of the WSJ MTIP, which is broken out into an executive summary and four chapters:

Executive Summary (PDF)

Chapter 1 – Introduction

We are building a holistic sustainable transportation vision for West San Jose. This section gives readers a background on how the WSJ MTIP came to be and what it aims to do (PDF).

Chapter 2 – Goals and Vision

This chapter provides an overview of existing plans, policies, and data (PDF) that have informed the goals of the WSJ MTIP. These goals serve as the basis for recommended projects, programs, and policies.

Chapter 3 – Recommendations

This section provides a set of recommended projects, policies, and programs (PDF). These elements were informed by the WSJ MTIP’s vision, goals, existing conditions analysis, and community outreach process. These recommendations will greatly advance accessibility for all drivers, walkers, rollers, bike riders, and transit users. As a whole, these recommendations will enhance transportation safety in San José.

The recommendations in this chapter are grouped into two categories:

  • Projects: Recommended infrastructure improvements that are presented through a network-based approach.
  • Programs and Policies: Recommended activities or strategic initiatives that we can achieve through future planning efforts.

Chapter 4 – Implementation

This chapter presents the next steps toward the implementation of the projects and programs (PDF) identified in the WSJ MTIP. This includes strategies for sustained engagement and funding opportunities. Please review the following steps that DOT staff must take when planning, designing and constructing recommended WSJ MTIP projects, programs or policies.
